Is it legal for me to trap a rat?
Yes, it is legal for you to trap a rat. In actual fact, we would suggest this is exactly the approach
you take when you learn of a rat invasion in your residential or commercial property. Don’t waste your
time with traps such as live cage traps, plastic box traps, electrically-run traps, or even glue traps.
None of those are approaches we would recommend, for a wide number of reasons. The majority of them are
actually much more inhumane than you'd think, and often come with their fair share of problems too. If
you ever see a box or trap that contains poison, put it back on the shelf and walk away. Poisons ARE NOT
a good idea when you have rats in your building.
Snap traps are the best way to deal with rats, and although you’d probably prefer if you didn't have to put them
down to ensure they were out of your life, that really is the best way. In some places around the world, New York
City included, you would actually be doing a public service if you were to use snap traps to euthanize these animals.
The population is so high that they actually cause a rather big nuisance, and a lot of the damage they cause is to
residential or commercial properties. The repair bills can often fall into the hundreds and potentially even thousand
of dollars.
