Does car insurance cover rat damage?
Rats are not just a bad idea in your home, they can cause no end of damage in other areas of your land, such as
your garage. It is sadly not uncommon for rats to chew through electrical cables in your vehicle, and as well as
being dangerous, this can cause no end of problems when you're desperately trying to rush your way to work first
thing in the morning.
If you do suspect that rats might be the reason your car won't start, you should give your insurance company a call. It might
surprise you to learn that some policies WILL actually over you in the case of a rat chewing and damaging something.
Generally, comprehensive cover is the best cover to have. This one is more than likely going to cover you for incidences that do
not involve a collision, such as your car becoming damaged by a wild animal. Any other type of cover is probably not going to protect
you, and you will need to pay for the damage / repairs out of your own pocket. We would always recommend that you do call your insurance
provider for more information, however. You might just be pleasantly surprised to learn what you are covered for.
Generally, once you have made your insurance company aware of your claim, they will order an inspection to be carried out on your vehicle.
This will help them to determine the cause of your damage, and if the cause can be proven to be rats, and you have that comprehensive cover,
you'll be just fine. The only thing you'll need to worry about next is your insurance deductible. Make sure you ask your insurance provider
about that!
